FRAMING THE CIRCLE OF CAPOEIRA ANGOLA
WITH YOUNG AFRICAN REFUGEES IN SYDNEY

University of Western Sydney - Centre for Cultural Research
Higher Degree Research Candidate: Paulo Alberton
Supervisory panel: Dr. Cristina Rocha (main) Associate Professor Hart Cohen and Dr. Megan Watkins

This is a practice based research that uses observational and participatory filmmaking to explore the experiences of young refugees who practise Capoeira Angola during their resettlement process in Australia. It aims to deliver a long form documentary and an exegesis by March 2012.

An online element to this project is in consideration and development. The Department of Education and Training has approved this idea in principle. So this section, which is now a raw compilation of links to ideas and influneces may transform itself into a blog and a wiki with its own separate domains.

Updates coming soon. Till then, enjoy these links...

My Father, My Master - an ongoing documentary
My Father, My Master is a self-funded documentary I have been shooting since Aug 2007 with the support of a few friends and volunteers. It looks into the father / son, master / disciple relationship between Mestre Roxinho and Mestre Virgilio within the world of Capoeira Angola. This project is at rough cut stage beautifully evolving and changing (very slowly) in a jugling act between full time Doctorate, paid work and little personal life.
